The prefecture of Drama is located in Macedonia and administratively belongs to the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. It consists of five municipalities, each of which has several villages, attractions and points of interest.

Municipality of Drama

The municipality of Drama consists of villages such as Taxiarches, Xiropotamos, Choristi, Kalliphytos, Kalos Agros, Mavrovatos, Mikrohori, Sidironero and others. In the municipality of Drama, various cultural events take place throughout the year. One of them is the “International Short Film Festival” every September. The “Dramaica Youth Festival” song festival held at the springs of Agia Varvara and “DramOINOgnosia”, with the subject of wine and the rich local gastronomy in a preeminent wine-producing region of the country. Events are also held in the framework of the Eleftheria of Drama on July 1st and also during the carnival with the Carnival in Choristi. Also throughout December, the biggest Christmas Party takes place, the “Dream Town of Drama”, a magical Christmas village!

Municipality of Kato Nevrokopi

The Municipality of K. Nevrokopi extends over a large area occupying the entire northwestern part of the prefecture. It consists of the villages of Dasoto, Perithorio, Lefkogeia, Pagoneri, Volaka, Akrino, Livadaki, Ochyro, Exohi, Vathytopo, Graniti, etc. The large area of the municipality, the particularly low winter temperatures and the morphology of the land, which includes some of the highest mountains in Greece, such as Orvilos, Falakro, Menoikio, the Vrontos mountains, etc., make the special area and give it an additional value in the field of sports tourism. In the area there are attractions such as the historic World War II Lisse Fort and its Museum, the Ski Center of Falakros, Lefkogeion Lake and a number of post-Byzantine historical temples. All the sights are crossed by hiking trails, which are also used in sports competitions organized in the area every May.

Municipality of Paranesti

The municipality of Paranesti is a mountainous municipality that crosses from Nestos, to the Thracian Tempi gorge. To the south are the Basin Mountains, while to the northeast the mountain range of Koula with the mountains Haidu (Erymanthos) and Stamna and the mountainous area of Lepida. To the north stands Frakto and to the northwest, on the border with the municipality of Drama, Elatia. Several streams form on the slopes of the mountains and join large tributaries of Nestos, forming impressive waterfalls. In the municipality there are many bridges such as the bridge of Krini, of Prasinada below the monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior, of Pefki, of Pehan in the stream of Thermion, the five bridges of Stravorremos, the three bridges of Farasinos, the single-arched bridge of Tsoukali, the bridges of Trachoni and the largest single-arched bridge of its kind in Eastern Macedonia, that of Arkudoremos. Also in the municipality of Paranesti you can find most of the wineries in the Hadriani area.

Municipality of Doxatos

The Municipality of Doxato is the southernmost municipality of the prefecture of Drama and consists of the villages of Agios Athanasios, Agora, Kefalari, Kyrgia, Pigadia, Kalampaki, Agia Paraskevi, Kalamon, Nerofraktis and Ftelia. The springs of Kefalari are a point of relaxation as they are surrounded by dense vegetation and streams, which create an oasis especially for the summer months. In Mikrohori there is one of the most beautiful wineries in the region and in the other villages there are agro-tourism units such as an olive press, a traditional halvad factory, a farm for growing and processing vegetables. Every year on May 2, horse races have been held for many years. It is an integral element of the tradition of the historical Doxatos and one of the most important cultural events of Drama.

Municipality of Prosotsani

The Municipality of Prosotsani consists of the villages of Prosotsani, Anthochori, Grammeni, Kali Vrysi, Kallithea, Kokkinogeia, Mikropoli, Petroussa, Pyrgoi, Haritomeni etc. In the municipality is the Aggiti cave, the largest river cave in the world with a length of 11 kilometers. It is also the largest cave in Greece. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that the Aggitis river flows inside the cave. The Menoiki mountain with its rich flora and fauna in its dense forests, gorges, plateaus and subalpine meadows, ranks it among the most important mountainous regions of Eastern Macedonia. More than 500 plant species have been recorded, which make up about 20 habitats. In the area are also two of the wineries of Drama as well as the winery of the god Dionysos. There are rafting trips on the Agiti River all year round.
