The Aggiti Cave is one of the most important tourist attractions of Eastern Macedonia, which has the uniqueness of being the largest river cave in the world. The Aggiti cave is located approximately 25 km northwest of Drama, in the municipality of Prosotsani, next to the village of Piges, it can be visited for a length of 500 meters, while in total it extends over a length of more than 21 kilometers.
The other name of the cave is ¨Maara¨, a name probably etymologically in Arabic as “small cave”, or in Hebrew meaning “water from the mountain”. The river, rushing out of the cave, follows a course between a dense vegetation of plane trees and creates a very beautiful atmosphere for paddling, for picnics, but also for a relaxed and more relaxing rest in the adjacent taverns and coffee places.

The cave of Alistrati is located near Drama and belongs to the network of caves of the Aggitis river gorge along with four other known caves. Its rich decoration includes, in addition to huge stalactites and stalagmites in various colors and the rare eccentrics. Eccentrics or helictites are rare formations that are created by “defying” the laws of gravity and following irregular paths. It is also characterized by the unique microscopic organisms (3 mm) found within it, such as Alistratia Beroni, a unique species of isopod. The accessible corridors are approximately 3 km long.
